Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is one of the earliest educational institutes in India and leads in the field of welfare development studies. It ranks among the top 50 universities, as per NIRF. TISS has campuses at Mumbai, Tuljapur, Hyderabad, and Guwahati. The institute offers nearly 50 master degree programmes, including management specializations like HRM. TISS shortlists the candidates based on their scores in TISSNET. The final admissions are determined by the candidate’s performance in subsequent selection rounds.

Interview Experiences
A panel of three interviewers asked the candidates about their goals, academics, experiences, hobbies, etc. Some candidates were also put general questions about their preferred specialization. Other questions were based on the information provided by the candidate in their DAF (Detailed Application Form). TISS interviews also included an extempore round, wherein the candidate was given a topic to speak on. For this, the candidate had one minute to think and 1.5-3 minutes to speak.
The interviews lasted for 10-15 minutes per candidate. Here are some experiences shared by the candidates interviewed during TISS admissions 2022:

  • Are you aware of any HR theories?
  • What do you think are some traits that you need to work on before joining here?
  • What was Einstein’s biggest contribution to physics?
  • What is the difference between quantum mechanics and classical mechanics?
  • How can you help solve societal problems by working in the HRM field?

Interview 2:

Interview for: Masters of Sustainable Livelihood & Natural Governance
Questions:
  • Define feminism.
  • Why is women empowerment so important?
  • What problems do women face?
  • Tell us the names of two books that you have studied on tribal development. Also, name their authors.
  • What was Rabindranath Tagore’s contribution to rural development?
  • Can one tribal sell his land to another tribal? And to a non-tribal?
  • Is Land a State subject or a Central one?
