Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are the topmost B-schools in the country that offer undergraduate, postgraduate, executive and doctoral programmes in management and related specializations. IIMs are considered institutions of national importance and are renowned for their excellent quality of education and great placement records. Currently, there are 21 IIMs in India, with 15 of them counted as new or baby IIMs. All of these have a flagship two-year MBA/PGP/PGDM program, the most sought-after course for management aspirants.

Generally, IIMs follow a two-stage process for their MBA admissions. In the first stage, the candidates are shortlisted on the basis of their CAT scores, past academic records, work experience, and gender/academic diversity. These candidates are then called for the IIM interview and other screening rounds. In the second stage, a final admission list is prepared as per the candidate's performance in IIM Essay Writing/ Personal Interview rounds and the factors considered in the first stage. While the older IIMs conduct individual admissions, most of the new and baby IIMs hold a Common Admission Process (CAP) and a Supplementary Admission Process (SAP).
